چکیده

Methods The study included 18 teenagers, mean age of 12.75 +/1.66 affected by a progressed idiopathic scoliosis, with mean Cobb angle of 29 +/10 degrees at Risser 0 to 3. A Cybex dynamometer was used to measure isokinetic trunk, and knee muscle strength, before the start of orthopedic treatment and 6 months after treatment commenced. The isokinetic parameters measured were the maximum momentum for the flexor and extensor muscles, of the trunk, and knee, at different angular velocities, as well as the agonist/antagonist ratios. Seven healthy subjects of comparable age (12.57 +/1.27) served as a control group, evaluated just at the first stage of the study. The statistical analysis included averages, standard deviation, and student test.

Assessment of Coronal Radiographic Parameters of the Spine in the Treatment of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

Background: To determine the most important preoperative factors that affect postoperative coronal parameters of scoliotic curves.   Methods: All Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) patients included in the study were classified according to Lenke and King Classification. The fusion levels were selected according to the rigidity of the existing curves (correction less than 50%), tilt...

Treatment of children scoliosis by corrective brace with regulated force effect.

Rigid structural spine scoliosis of a child and even non progressive congenital scoliosis (e.g. isolated hemivertebra) can be treated by hypercorrective brace in full day regime. The article shows the new type of corrective brace with adjustable force effect. The brace consists of 3 stiff parts connected by joints and telescopes. The parts of brace are made from plastic according to plaster for...

Orthopedic Management of Scoliosis by Garches Brace and Spinal Fusion in SMA Type 2 Children

BACKGROUND Scoliosis is the most debilitating issue in SMA type 2 patients. No evidence confirms the efficacy of Garches braces (GB) to delay definitive spinal fusion. OBJECTIVE Compare orthopedic and pulmonary outcomes in children with SMA type 2 function to management. METHOD We carried out a monocentric retrospective study on 29 SMA type 2 children who had spinal fusion between 1999 and ...
